Winter is coming but, more than taking it as a threat, this year I’d like to be philosophical about it. It always sounds like “we Finns” (I include myself into that category, even though there is not even one drop of Finnish blood in me, but believe me, I behave way more like a Finn than an Italian, let alone Brazilian!) are too tragic when winter comes, but you would agree with us that living in the darkness for four months a year has its challenges. I don’t consider myself to be meteoropathic, as my dad is, just to name one, that needs light and sun in order to live happily. I can find enjoyment even in gloomy and foggy days. Even they have their own reason to exist. Sadly, though, cold + humidity + the general grayness also mean high probability of getting sick. And even in that I find something positive, if getting sick means having that usual and annoying sore throat or cold, because the only way of getting rid of them is by staying inside, under the blanket, watching a movie or your favorite tv-series, with something hot to drink. And it is about the latter that I’d like to talk about.Spices. Golden milk | Turmeric milk | on Due fili d'erba | Two blades of grass | Recipe, styling and photo by Thais FK

I recently discovered fresh turmeric. This is how it went. One day I went to Lidl (for you who don’t live in Europe, Lidl is an amazing supermarket chain from Germany with good quality products at a really affordable price), I reached the shelf where the fresh and organic ginger usually is, I take it and stop wondering: “Why does this ginger look so weird?”. I look up at the price tags and I read that it is not ginger, but turmeric! I got super excited about this as I had previously heard a lot about golden milk, or turmeric milk, but haven’t had the chance to try it first hand, so I of course bought a package. Turmeric has amazing properties, such as: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, purifying and digestive. Something really important to remember is that turmeric’s best friend is black pepper, which increases exponentially the assimilability of turmeric by preventing the liver to dissolve it too quickly.

You’re right Angela! Turmeric milk is really a ray of sun in winter time. It is quite sweet because of the honey and the spices are not overwhelmingly strong once added the milk 🙂
