Last month, when Desirée came to visit us here in Finland, we decided to go to Stockholm for few days. Our first destination was another one, but few events that will be revealed in the following post, we opted to visit Sweden’s capital.

We had some doubts on where to sojourn, and the thing got even more complicated since we started planning our trip only a week before departure, which is highly unusual for me and my way to plan trips, but that’s just how it went this time. Searching among campings near Stockholm, we found one that looked too good to be true. Already sure that they wouldn’t have any space left (because how is it possible that such a beautiful camping would have any place left right in the middle of high season?!), I wrote them anyways. With my great surprise, they indeed have free places for tents, so that’s where we headed! Since we took a boat from Finland, we had our car with us and it was so easy to get to the camping by car from the harbor. Once arrived, we were just astounded by the beauty of the place.

Klubbensborg is located on a peninsula in Lake Mälaren. Close to the camping there is a little harbor and a canoe rental, so if water is your element, definitely this is the camping of your dreams. We arrived in the evening and, as soon as we got checked in, we started to stroll around the camping area. The area has many beautiful historic wooden buildings. I wasn’t surprised when I afterwards read that the area is heritage listed. In the main building, Uddvillan, there is a café and I understood that you can also reserve some rooms to host parties and conferences. Desirée already decided that if she’ll get married one day, this is going to be the place (don’t worry, she never will). Other buildings have rooms or apartments one can rent, so Klubbensborg is a travel destination all year round.

During our evening stroll we happened to be at the right place and at the right time: at sunset with the most vivid colors, looking at the calm water of the lake, with Stockholm in the distance, the wooden boats going back and forth in front of us broadcasting from their radio or vinyl record player. Wow, it was magical, something we’ll remember our whole life. These kind of perfect moments seem not to be rare at Klubbensborg though, as the exact same hypnotic evening happened again the next day and we decided to take our third anniversary picture in this bench on a tree literally on the lake.

Another big plus of Klubbensborg is the connection to Stockholm city center by metro, which is only a 15 minutes walk away and brings you directly to the city center. The receptionists will even kindly give you a map that will show you how to get to the nearest metro station. By the way, even that walk is something beautiful, as you’ll walk through a very suggestive and picturesque residential area, with colorful houses and well kept gardens.

So, if you want my advice, Klubbensborg is definitely the place where you want and need to stay if you visit Stockholm, both if you travel with caravan/autocaravan/tent and if you want the comforts of an apartment or pension room.

I know what you’re asking yourselves and the answer is no. I was in no way compensated to write this article. I just fell in love with the place and thought to share it with you, my beloved readers, because this camping area definitely deserved to be spoken of.
